"Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding."

Albert Einstein

Next Peace Walk: Saturday 4th April 9.30am to 10.15am.

See you at Marks and Spencers at 9.30am or anywhere along the route. No need to bring a placard, feel free to show up as you are!

Welcome to Stamford's Peace Walk! Eleanor is an active member of her community in Stamford, Lincolnshire in the UK. She is privileged to have many friends in the local area who are like-minded,  appreciative of the arts, deeply care about their fellow citizens worldwide, irrespective of politics and religion, and are unafraid to speak out against injustice. A small core group has started a monthly get-together in order to have a visible, peaceful presence in the market town of Stamford. Join them if you can, to show that this is a town where people DO care, welcome immigrants, speak up for justice and want to see a kinder world where we learn from each other and benefit from one another's skills and humanity.

Stamford Peace Walk

Eleanor has joined forces with local friends including our local Methodist vicar Andrew Hollins, Grace O'Halloran, Marleni Hill, Bo Mellor, Kath Burrows, current Mayor of Stamford Amanda Wheeler, iconic social enterprise change-maker George Hetherington and many more. Together, they have a core group to lead the monthly Peace Walk through the town centre - and would love to have more people so if you want to meet others that care about injustice, simply show up any time between 9.30am and 10.15am and you will receive a warm welcome as you join the walk.

Here is some information about why we are walking together.

  • We are all connected by our dismay at the injustices playing out worldwide and feel that the general western media presents a biased view of what is happening 'on the ground'. We want to share true stories of real humans in placed afflicted by injustice and oppression. We cannot be the voice of the voiceless but we wish to contribute time and care to raising these voices so that others can listen and be better informed.
  • We are not affiliated with a particular group and have no hidden agenda.
  • We do not hold placards supporting proscribed groups, regardless of our personal feelings, so we are not in contention with the Police. You will not be putting yourself in any form of risk by walking and standing with us.
  • We walk quietly and peacefully, holding banners and posters with messages of peace and thought-provoking statements, similar to what you would see from Amnesty International.
  • Sometimes we play gentle music as we walk. We do not shout or use megaphones. We do not deliberately draw attention to ourselves.
  • The environment is welcoming to people of all ages, all religions or none, all genders and all nationalities. You do not need to give your name or any personal details, you can simply join in on the walk.
  • We are not affiliated with, or are against, any particular political parties. We simply spread messages of truth and peace. We aim to shine light on lies and corruption within governments around the world, not to distress people but simply to inform people.

Sometimes people within our group may be working on specific fundraising efforts and events. If you have something along these lines to share or promote, simply bring your flyers along and we can share information between ourselves and with the general public.

Some great news!

Thanks to our amazing community turning out on Saturday 7th March, despite a cold day; we have raised over £700 to distribute between four Palestinian families, known personally to members of our group. The event was a Tombola and Bake Sale, brainchild of Marleni Hill, our irrepressible Peruvian yoga instructor (open water swimmer, previous ultra marathon runner, community leader and general force for happiness and good!) who wanted to make a difference and thought of this brilliant event. Marleni gathered a huge amount of prizes for the tombola, donated by family, friends and clients. Thank you to everyone who donated products for the tombola, baked goods to sell, gave their time to helping in the gazebo or by baking, and of course Eleanor Turner on the harp, playing live Palestinian music in the town centre to draw people over to the gazebo. Also thanks to Stamford Town Council and St. Michael's Courtyard. The next fundraising event will be Marleni's parachute jump!

Pop along any time, join any time on the route between Marks and Spencer at the 'top end' of the High Street, and Red Lion Square at the bottom end. Bring placards if you like. It is a peaceful, friendly and welcoming event suitable for all ages, all genders, all religions or none, all nationalities.
