27 July - 1 August Eleanor Turner and Lisa Nelsen perform and coach a flute and harp course at the Aberystwyth Festival

Ages 16+ accomodation at the University. Grade 6 level or higher. You do not need to already have a flautist! You will be given one on the course, there are many more flautists than harpists. Full event programme here.

COURSE SCHEDULE

Day 1. Saturday 27 July Arrive midday, coaching sessions, meet the flautists, pair up, relax and enjoy evening concert featuring In Ireland for flute, harp and orchestra, by Hamilton Harty (often played as a flute and harp duo)

Day 2. Sunday 28 July full day of harp/flute classes, rehearsing and coaching sessions, plus 1.30pm Tutors' Concert: Aquilae Trio Concert by Lisa Nelsen, Eleanor Turner and Cath Leech featuring Debussy's Trio, Sylvain Blassel's transcription of Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre and the World Premiere of Arlene Sierra's new trio 'A Study in Choreography'. 2.30pm-3.30pm workshop with Arlene Sierra, open to the public.

Day 3. Monday 29 July more coaching, harp class with Eleanor, Claire Jones harp ensemble concert in the Great Hall.

Day 4. Tuesday 30th July rehearsals, coaching sessions, harp class and Ravel Introduction and Allegro prep.

Day 5. Wednesday 31st July 1.30pm Tutors' Concert with Solem Quartet, Lisa Nelsen and David Campbell joining Eleanor Turner for Ravel's Introduction and Allegro septet, followed by 2.30-3.30pm public masterclass/talk about that piece.

6.30pm Student Concert Flute and Harp Showcase!

8pm Concert that evening featuring Orion Orchestra with Rautavaara's 'Concerto for Arctic Birds and Orchestra' as well as Respighi's The Birds.

Day 6. Optional for harpists to stay over until 1st August and if they wish, to continue working with their flautist/s. 

NEW OPPORTUNITY JUST ANNOUNCED! "JUNIOR FELLOW" HARPIST WANTED

A paid position (£250 plus free accommodation and be a course participant - self-catering) for an advanced 18+ year old who can attend from at least Sunday 28th July until the evening of Saturday 3rd August, or until the morning of 4th August, to play in the concert on 3rd August and take advantage of all opportunities on the flute and harp course, including playing in the concert and possibly also playing in the orchestral concert on Wednesday 31st July.
